Henna in mahogany shade (Lawsonia Inermis) is part of the Indian or Ayurvedic tradition. In nature, it occurs as a small tree or shrub that can grow up to 6 metres tall. In India, it has always been used as a colouring agent for cosmetic purposes painting nails, beards, decorating palms and soles, and colouring hair.

Written records of its use date back as far as 2000 years ago - it plays an important role in Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, where it is used in many ceremonies, especially weddings.

Henna is a great hair dye for its properties - you will achieve a beautiful mahogany shade with it, which appears as a dark brown to slightly reddish colour on your hair, depending on your current hair colour. It will also cover grey hairs and in addition to colouring, henna will also nourish, hydrate, add shine and volume to your hair.

Use

Tips for use:

• Hair Color: Mix henna in a container (which should not be metal) with warm water until the mixture is smooth and let stand for 1 hour. If you mix it with indigo, heat the henna to about 50°C. Apply the mixed colour to washed and dried hair. Cover your hair with a nylon shower cap, then wrap it in a towel and leave it on for 45-90 minutes depending on the desired intensity of colour. Use a dark towel when doing this, as the colour can leave marks - even on the neck and near the ears. Then wash your hair with warm water.
• Hair Mask (for brown hair only): Leave the same product on the hair for up to 30 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

For short hair you need about 30-50g, for semi-long hair about 50-70g and for long hair up to 100g of henna powder.
