Selenium is an essential trace element (less than 50 mg/kg is found in the human body) and the body cannot produce it on its own. Selenium is involved in many metabolic processes,protects cells from free radicals, maintains normal hair and nails, maintains normal function of the immune system and sperm production, and plays a role in the function of the parathyroid gland

This vital element is found in fish, eggs, lentils and asparagus, but unfortunately the amount of selenium in fruits and vegetables depends on the quality of the soil in which the plants were grown.
